Snapchat recently got a major update with additional features. This update provides more options for following friends, influencers, and celebrities, as well as staying up to date with current trends. In this article, we will explain how to utilize Snapchat to its full potential.
Enhanced Snap Map Features
Last year, Snapchat introduced two new layers to the Snap Map known as "Memories" and "Explore." This update is now accessible on all iOS and Android devices in all countries where Snapchat operates. The Snap Map is an interactive map that helps users discover interesting places to visit based on their activity, locate friends, and discover popular spots among other users. These new features enhance the functionalities of the Snap Map, as their names suggest.
The "Memories" layer allows users to view what occurred in a specific location on the same day a year ago. This layer consists of only photos from the user's collection, and they are not visible to others. It's a great option for frequent travelers to revisit visited cities without leaving home.
The "Explore" layer provides a broad overview of the current activities of other Snapchat users. On the map, users can see the locations with the most activity, marked in orange or red like a heat map. In this layer, users can also view publicly posted photos to discover what their friends, favorite celebrities, or exciting events are happening in various regions.
Both layers display users as "Actionmoji" instead of profile icons, showing a preview of their posts. To be visible on the map, Snapchatters need to share their location. Users can choose to make their snaps public, visible only to friends, or not visible at all (viewing in "ghost" mode).
Utilizing the New Layers
Are you interested in exploring memories or checking what your friends are up to? Here's how you can do it:
Open Snapchat on any of your devices;
Find the "Snap Map" icon in the lower-left corner of the screen and tap on it;
On the map, locate the "Settings" in the upper right corner and select the "Layers" menu;
Choose the desired layer from the list;
Switch between layers to explore different functionalities.
Exploring the Explore Layer
Upon opening the map, you will be directed to the Explore layer. This layer provides a global map with activity markers displayed. Zoom in and out to view the desired region. By clicking on a specific area, its name will appear at the top of the screen. You can click on the title to view all photos taken in that area. Select "Friends" for your friends' activities or "Places" to discover popular spots in your country. Refresh the map periodically to see new content.
Exploring Memories
Switch to the Memories layer to view all your photos on the map. Browse through different regions and districts to revisit past memories. Click on a photo to enlarge it and view it in more detail.
Snapchat Bridges Global Connections
