Gotham Knights Release Delayed Until 2022

Both fans of action videogames and those of the DC Universe have been eagerly anticipating the release of Gotham Knights since it was announced in August 2020. Originally scheduled for release in 2021, the developer recently announced that the game will be delayed until 2022 as WB Games needs more time to ensure its proper completion.

What We Know About Gotham Knights

The premise of Gotham Knights is intriguing. In this universe, Batman is killed at the beginning (or even before the game starts). Fortunately, Gotham still has its superhero team intact, consisting of Batgirl, Nightwing, Redhood, and Robin, who are tasked with investigating Batman's death and fighting the villains. Each of the four characters is playable, with unique abilities and play styles. The trailer showcases Redhood shooting opponents and other characters using fantastic melee skills. In addition to a single-player mode, the game will also feature cooperative play.

In terms of gameplay, Gotham Knights is an action-packed open-world game, offering players the freedom to choose their paths and explore beyond the main storyline. Players can expect numerous references to lesser-known DC characters, events, and locations. The characters may also have the option to upgrade the outdated equipment at their base, the Belfry, suggesting potential base-building elements.

Is Batman Really Dead?

The revelation of Batman's death will undoubtedly surprise many DC fans, despite the prior announcement. While superheroes are mortal, the absence of Batman may mark a new era in the DC universe: Gotham after Batman. However, the trailer does not show Batman's body, leaving a possibility that his death could be staged or merely rumored.

The concept of a multiverse allows for different versions of Batman's story, leaving room for new adventures and interpretations. The iconic hero has been reshaped and reinvented numerous times throughout history, suggesting that Batman's legacy may continue beyond Gotham Knights.

Gotham Knights and Other DC Games

Although Gotham Knights will not directly relate to the popular Batman: Arkham series, it will share some similarities in terms of their origins. Developed by Warner Bros.' official gaming division, the game is considered canonical within the DC universe. It does not connect to other DC games, such as the Telltale series or movie-based titles.

There is currently no information about a potential sequel to Gotham Knights or whether the events within the game will impact other parts of the DC universe. Fans will have to wait until 2022 and hope for no further delays.
