One of the most appealing features of modern video conferencing systems is the virtual green screen, allowing users to replace their background with any image they choose. Google Meet has recently updated this technology, enhancing the user experience for those working from home or looking to add some creativity to their video calls.
The latest Google Meet update focuses on key aspects of its virtual green screen, including background blur for concealing surroundings, background replacement for a tropical island or forest setting, and immersive background styles created by Google with animations, dynamic lighting, and real weather effects.
Cloud processing of these effects is another significant improvement, enabling users with older devices to enjoy the features without compromising performance. Currently, only light adjustment and background blur effects are supported, saving up to 30% of CPU resources.
Google has rolled out the updated digital backgrounds to all users worldwide simultaneously, making it more accessible compared to previous updates. However, the feature is limited to Workspace Business/Enterprise and Workspace Individual accounts, excluding personal Google accounts and others.
If you have access to these new backgrounds, have you tested them out yet? How has Google Meet performed following the update? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments!
