Insights on Riot’s Upcoming MMORPG: What Have We Learned?

The announcement has been made: League of Legends is set to have its own MMORPG. While details are scarce at the moment, speculation and anticipation are running high among users and industry experts.

Following the launch of "The Ruined King" and a standalone fighting game, Riot Games is embarking on a larger-scale endeavor. The time has come to offer players a full immersive experience in Runeterra with a new MMO. Rumors about this project have been circulating since 2019, when League founder Marc Merrill hinted at plans for an MMORPG.

Despite the official confirmation, the release date for the game remains unknown. Riot Games has cited a heavy workload with ongoing projects. Speculation points towards a potential launch in late 2023, but based on available information, mid-2024 seems like a more realistic estimate.

Unfortunately, details about which regions of Runeterra players will be able to explore are still under wraps. It would make sense for the game to begin in central areas such as Piltover, Noxus, or Demacia.

Every MMORPG typically offers a variety of classes or professions for players to choose from. In order to maintain fidelity to the original game, Riot may introduce six main classes: Marksman, Slayer, Tank, Mage, Fighter, and Enchanter.

The inclusion of a raid system is also anticipated in the game. The exact implementation within the world of Runeterra remains unclear, but lead producer Greg Street is eager to see it come to fruition.

Riot Games has acknowledged that not all players may embrace the new MMORPG, recognizing diverse preferences among gaming audiences. Stay tuned for further updates on this upcoming project.
