Both content moderation and tools to block trolls have been a focus of Instagram for some time. Trolls are an inevitable part of using social media platforms, which is why having effective methods to remove them is crucial. Instagram has stated that its team has increased efforts to address abuse and hate speech on the platform.
Users will now have access to more features to block troll accounts. Previously, users could only block existing accounts and future accounts of the same person. Now, they have the ability to block all accounts associated with a certain person at once.
Instagram is popular among young adults, more so than Facebook. Because of this, Meta is dedicated to ensuring there are ample safety tools on Instagram. Along with the blocking feature, Instagram has also enhanced its filtering feature for offensive words in replies to Stories. The Hidden Words feature is especially useful for users with a large following. Additionally, any inappropriate Stories replies from non-followers will be diverted to the Hidden Requests folder automatically.
The Hidden Words feature on Instagram is not limited to just English. It currently supports a variety of languages and has been expanded to include new ones such as Turkish, Russian, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, and Farsi.
